The Ask

The Exchange District BIZ was unveiling its 20-year Community Investment Strategy, and asked UpHouse to get the word out there through the media.

The Execution

To make a big splash, we executed a media event, planning everything from location to visual assets. For the event, my role was to create the written assets, including the media release, media advisory, speeches, and two backgrounder documents summarizing the detailed strategy down into a few pages, as well as execute the media outreach and supporting the event planning. In the key messaging, we wanted to emphasize the positive impact this strategy will have on the Exchange District and the city as a whole, such as how it would make it safer and more accessible.

Results

Roughly 100 people attended the event, including reporters, business owners, cultural and community leaders, and city officials. The audience was engaged in the speaking program and in the visuals with each of the different pillars of the strategy.

We received media coverage from 15 media clippings, including from tier one outlets such as the Winnipeg Free Press, 680 CJOB and Global News Winnipeg. The sentiment was generally very positive and conveyed the messages we were trying to get across.

In Closing

When news is big enough for an event, it can make a large impact and allow for your key messages to be conveyed to the right audiences.

Having an engaging speaking program and photo opportunities as well as strong spokespeople made for a successful campaign that spread the news about a new era for the Exchange District.
